Find Your Zen, Using Tan Tien

The Loaded Tan Tien was conceived by the minds of freestyle longboarding artisans. This board is constructed with vertically laminated bamboo and comes with a very simple concave.

The concave of this board is almost flat except for the camber in the center and a slight amount of radial concave. This makes it comfortable when riding on rough terrain. The nose and tail of this board are perfectly practical but can also be used for some pretty intense looking maneuvers at the hands of a proper longboard freestyler.

For your comfort, this board is nice and low to the ground for increased stability and ease of pushing due to the drop-through mounting. This board features camber and a moderate amount of flex to reduce the feeling of bumps.

Frequently Asked Questions

It is pretty simple, the Tan Tien is basically the little bro to the Dervish. At just 39" (99cm) the Tan Tien is about 4 inches shorter than the Dervish.

But what does this actually mean? The shorter Tan Tien is going to feel more nimble and quick turning. It will also be a little lighter and easier to carry.

The cons are that the Tan Tien is not going to feel as stable and will be slightly harder to ride.

We recommend the Dervish for brand new riders looking to cruise or dance. We recommend the Tan Tien to riders that have ridden skateboards before and want something more maneuverable.

The Tan Tien is the more chill of the two. It does not have very aggressive concave or flex patterns, making it a very comfortable crusier.

The Icarus is more aggressive, with steeper concave and snappier flex.

We recommend watching the videos of both and the deciding which style of riding is more oriented for you.

On the Flex 1 variation, we recommend maxing it out at about 300 pounds (136 kg).

If you are a lighter rider and in between flexes, we generally recommend getting the stiffer option.

For example, a 150 pound rider fits between Flex 2 and Flex 3. We recommend this rider get the Flex 2. The reason we suggest this is that a snappy feeling flex is generally more fun than a "wet noodle" flex.

Loaded does an excellent job getting this board spec'd up from the factory. However, we do have a few suggestions.

Trucks: Paris Trucks 180mm is the way to go. We have tried many different trucks on this board and these are hands down the best balance of everything you want to get the most out of the deck.

Wheels: There are tons of awesome wheels out there that work great on the Tan Tien. It can fit up to 80mm if you run the trucks tighter, but we recommend sticking to around 70mm. The larger wheels make the board turn in slower and feel sluggish. The main benefits from the larger wheels are largely mitigated because of this.

Bearings: The Loaded Jehus are fine and we recommend using them to start, but we do like a few other brands more. Check out Zealous or Dragon BUILT for longer lasting built in style bearings.

The better question is... What kind of tricks can you not do on the Loaded Tan Tien?

Riders have done all kinds of tricks on the Tan Tien. Just be prepared for a longboard, it is not a shortboard. However, with time and practice, you can still kickflip it, ollie it, etc.
