Zealous Bearings were not the first built-in bearing, but they probably be credited with bringing them into the mainstream. They designed a high quality bearing with built in spacers/speed rings and dual rubber seals. There isn't much more to ask for.

Check out the Zealous Ceramics for a lighter, stronger, and smoother roll than metal ball bearings. Ceramic balls are also corrosive resistant.

Each bearing has a removable and strengthened Nylon Ball Retainer. Green (steel) or White (ceramic) rubber seals keep dirt and debris on the outside of the bearing.

Zealous Steel Skateboards Bearings

The most special feature about Zealous is that each bearing is lubed with Custom Nanoceramic Grease. This grease, called Archoil is a nanoceramic compound that fills in deformations or asperities in the bearing. These deformations would cause friction and heat around them which hardens the nano-ceramic compound to that specific area.

This micro coating is 5 times the hardness of the host alloy and has a molecular bond with the host metal, filling in all the asperities and eliminating friction over time.

The coefficient of friction is the lowest in the field of Tribology at 0.003% creating a near frictionless surface. Mainly because the nanoceramic compound eliminates all asperities. Corrosion on the inside of the bearing is nearly eliminated.

Sold in sets of 8 bearings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, Zealous Bearings have dual seals that are removable. However, we do not recommend taking Zealous apart. All bearing seals are delicate and easily damaged. The NanoCeramic grease used in the bearings is not easily removed and replaced.

The high performance NanoCeramic grease as well as two seals keep the Zealous Bearings lasting for a very, very long time. With proper care (avoiding water, sand, other debris), Zealous Bearings may outlast other components on your skateboard.

Typically Zealous are broken in after about 5 miles (8 km) of riding. The grease used will loosen up and allow the bearings to spin more freely.

There are two things that set Zealous apart from Bones REDS:

  1. Lubricant: Zealous uses NanoCeramic Grease and Bones REDS use Bones Speed Cream (oil). The grease stays inside the bearing for longer than grease, but at the slight expense of top speed.
  2. Built in Design: Bones REDS are typical 608 style bearings. Zealous have the spacers and speed rings "built in" to the bearing. This allows for faster wheel changes.

For most riders, ceramic is overkill. The benefits vs. price of the ceramic version is hard to justify. However, Zealous Ceramics are not that expensive, making them much easier to justify.

Ceramics have less friction and are lighter. But they are also hybrids (steel inner and outer races) so there can still be some corrosion issues on the steel parts.

Zealous also only makes Ceramic Bearings avalible to select skate shops and not for sale on Amazon, etc.

We suggest steel for casual riders and ceramic for racing and downhill riders.

The install process is the same as regular bearings, you can just skip the spacers and speed rings. Check out this video:

Yes, all the Zealous components are removable. However, we do not suggest cleaning them. The lubricant used is not easily replaced and by the time the bearings need cleaning, there could already be damage to the metal that no amount of cleaning can fix.

Yes and No. The tool can be used to press the bearings in, but it cannot be used to remove the bearings.

As long as the roller skates or inline skates use the same axle size and spacers as skateboards, then yes you can. The best way to check this is to just take apart your skates and see what bearings / spacers are currently being used.

Zealous Bearings will not work with any kind of spacers since they have the spacers "built in" the bearing already.

Zealous were designed in the USA and are made in China. They ship their special NanoCeramic lubricant from the USA to China to have their bearings pre-lubricated with the signature formula.
