The Powell Peralta Mike McGill Skull & Snake Flight Red Foil skateboard deck puts Vernon Courtlandt Johnson's 1984 Bones Brigade icon on Flight construction in Shape 218B. This deck-only board measures 9.01 inches wide by 32.45 inches long with a 15 inch wheelbase, a 6.5 inch nose, and a 6.75 inch tail, Mike's current mold for vert, bowls, pools, and transition. Red foil sits under the skull, snake, and Florida lightning so metallic color flashes through the classic linework. Flight construction bonds U.S. hard rock maple with high-strength fiberglass and AirLam epoxy in Ventura, California, delivering a thinner, stronger deck with lasting pop and no included grip tape.
VCJ Skull & Snake Graphic on Red Foil
Vernon Courtlandt Johnson drew Mike McGill's Skull & Snake in 1984 while Mike was working out the 540 McTwist at Swedish summer camp. The skull-and-bones theme was already landing, and Mike asked for the snake and lightning bolts that show up all over Florida. This Flight colorway prints that drawing over red foil so metal shows through the bone, coils, and bolts. Foil sheets can carry faint process lines, which Powell calls normal, and the ink-to-foil bond scratches if the deck is yanked from the wrap.
Shape 218B, K21 Concave, and 15 Inch Wheelbase
Powell Shape 218B is McGill's riding mold: 9.01 inches wide, 32.45 inches long, and a planted 15 inch wheelbase with a 6.5 inch nose and 6.75 inch tail. K21 concave is a medium-plus radial that locks the feet in transition without boxing out flip tricks off the lip. Flight's epoxy-infused fiber stack is as thin as a phone, more than twice as strong in tail-break tests, and built so rebound lasts several times longer than a comparable 7-ply. That is the current way to skate the Skull & Snake instead of hanging it.
