About The Nordic Skull artwork:
The Per Welinder Viking Skull was illustrated by V.C. Johnson in 1984. The fanged fantasy graphic was meant to reflect Per's Swedish origins. It was initially assigned to his freestyle model without the rock texture background, which was added in an updated version in 1986. In 1987 the new full-length graphic was adapted for a street model as Per began performing freestyle / street demos. The eighth century Runic stone lettering spells out Per's name as well as the background quote, "Search and strive, push beyond with strength, yours not theirs, that is the key." Something Per came up with. The graphic was also used for T-shirts and stickers.

Powell-Peralta re-issue decks are close reproductions of their 1980’s counterparts, featuring the original top and bottom graphics, shape and concave. Made with our partner in Mexico. Materials include U.S. hard rock maple and glue that meets our specifications, warranted against delamination for their useful life. Shape and graphics created in Santa Barbara, CA.
Per Welinder is a Swedish skateboarder celebrated for his freestyle mastery and contributions to the sport's progression. Rising to fame in the 1980s, he was a member of Powell-Peralta’s legendary Bones Brigade, standing out for his innovative tricks and technical precision. Known as the "Godfather of Freestyle," Welinder influenced skateboarding’s evolution with his smooth style and groundbreaking maneuvers. Beyond skating, he appeared as Michael J. Fox’s stunt double in *Back to the Future* and co-founded brands like Birdhouse Skateboards with Tony Hawk. Per’s dedication to skateboarding and entrepreneurial ventures solidified his legacy as a pioneer and cultural icon in the skate world.
